Stephen Fry - In Absentia
Portrait of Stephen Fry [1996]When Stephen Fry disappeared in 1995 he received direct and indirect communications from all over the world concerned with his well-being. Tony was one of the many who wished him well via email. This portrait is a result of that dialogue. It celebrates the hopeful internal state of a multi-faceted man, brave enough to make public his depression.
A well-known technophile, Stephen provided Tony Davis with a number of extremely small jpegs to work from. Technically the file was too small to do any other than use as the basis for a portrait. The portrait was therefore 'digitally painted'.
