For nearly 75 years Penguin® has been synonymous with publishing innovative, design-lead developments in paperbacks. There is global affection for the style and design of many decades of Penguin paperbacks which started humbly in a small church crypt in London.
Art Meets Matter began a unique design project in 2002 to explore the cultural relationship between the first Penguin paperbacks and everyday life. These designs encompass all aspects of functional design from porcelain mugs, bookbags, deckchairs, through to pencils and prints. Each design is a carefully thought out expression of typography, colour, functional object and lightly sprinkled with occasional wit. Art Meets Matter's design have won awards and are stocked by leading retailers worldwide.
