Art Meets Print prints two main substrates: Canvas and Paper. All our materials are carefully selected for quality and longevity. In some instances unusual substrates are used for special editions of artworks such as tracing paper, vinyl and other films. These may require different handling as indicated on the product pages.

Canvas prints

All art meets print work is printed onto 100% cotton canvas and stretched on to 38mm curved profile wooden stretchers [Some smaller works may use narrow width stretchers of 18mm profile]. Our print technology uses the highest quality pigmented inks available rated to over 200 years.

Our stretchers are made of kiln-dried Fir and produced within the EU from sustainable sources. The extra profile size provides protection against warping and flatness for wall hanging.

Paper Editions

All our paper prints [limited or open] are based on 100% Cotton rag, acid-free [255 & 330 gsm] Somerset Enhanced Velvet from St. Cuthberts Mill - the world's leading mould-made paper maker since the 1700s. Our print technology uses the highest quality pigmented inks available rated to over 200 years.

These papers offer excellent surface quality, stability and longevity specially designed for fine art reproduction and museum grade archives. They have won over 15 awards since introduction.

Archival inks

There is no point printing quality if it doesn't last. There are many systems for digital print which offer detail and vibrant colour but not the longevity required to match traditional methods, such as silkscreen.

We therefore use a pigmented 12-colour ink set which has been rated by Wilhelm Imaging Research, Inc. to provide light-fade resistance superior to traditional photography of over 100 years.

The ink is used with an approved, and tested, set of substrates which extends print life well beyond 200 years for canvas and paper. This exceeds the delivery on many commercial systems including Epson and traditional silver halide from Kodak and others.

Care of prints

We do not coat our prints with anything which will distort or create an 'artificial' look. Although the ink and substrates provide extra durability with smudge and basic water resistance it is sensible to care for the prints as for traditional art print forms.

The prints should be handled as little as possible. For non-framed work like canvas avoid contact with the surface where possible and particularly with abrasive, sharp or moist materials. Avoid pressing into the surface with fingers when moving or hanging as the canvas has a memory and indentations will affect viewing.

In case of dust use only a non-abrasive lint-free soft cloth or feather/brush.

Paper prints should ideally be framed with non-reflective glass on acid free board substrates. Both paper and canvas prints should be hung in locations not subject to direct sunlight or other focused light sources.

Open or Limted - Editions?

Most prints available on Art Meets Print are defined as 'open' editions. This means that these are created on demand and there is no fixed size for the print run.

Limited Editions are limited by the edition size [e.g. 1/250...] indicated on each print page where applicable. This means that only a set number of prints will be created for that artwork. Once these are sold the edition is closed and no longer available.

Artist proofs and special editions may be available for sale and presentation from time to time. Please sign up to our newletter if you wish to be kept informed of offers in this form.
